Éire Óg Fantasy Football

Hi folks,

The Premier League returns on Friday, 11th August and we're delighted to announce that the Eire Óg Fantasy Football league is back for another season.

We had huge interest last season and it proved a great success. The Eire Og private league will simply be renewed this season, so those in it last year will automatically be re-entered for this season. If you no longer wish to take part, you can simply remove your team from the league.

For those who haven’t played before and want to dip their toe, the first step is to register your Fantasy Football team at the following website: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/

If you haven’t played before, there is nothing to fear as detailed instructions on how to register, build your team and join our league will be emailed with receipt for payment.

Entry is €30 and can be paid at the following link via the club shop:

https://eireoginis.ie/products

Aside from banter amongst members and their friends, this is also a club fundraising activity which proved very successful last season. 50% of total entry fees will go toward prizes with the remaining 50% going toward the development of our club. Prizes will therefore be announced after the closing date for entry. Similar to last season, there will be overall prizes but also monthly prizes to keep players interested throughout the season regardless of overall standing. Updated standings will be emailed monthly to all participants throughout the season.

The closing date and time for entry is 6.30pm on Friday, 11th August. Those interested in playing are advised to make payment and join the league well in advance of this deadline. Those in the league after the deadline will be cross checked against those who have made payment via the club shop.

Fantasy Football is great fun particularly when competing with friends and club mates. Feel free to spread the word to friends and family alike. All are welcome to join our league and the more the merrier to again make it a successful fundraising endeavour for our club.

We hope that whether you’re a novice or a seasoned Fantasy Football pro, you’ll consider entering and spreading the word far and wide to keep us all busy tinkering with our teams over the cold winter months.

C’mon the Townies!

Éire Óg Gym Update

Progress Report on Gym Project-August 2023

Work has been progressing quietly but steadily on a number of fronts with regard to the gym project over the past few months-the main areas of concentration being fundraising and technical. As well as these, members will have noticed work commencing in creating storage space under the stand, to facilitate moving equipment from the machinery shed, which will be demolished as part of the overall project, also to prepare for transfer of some Academy equipment from the prefab, which will happen over the next few weeks.

The technical team comprising Odran Madden, Auriol Considine and Martin O’ Donnell, have been working closely with consulting engineering/architectural firm of Brian Foudy & Associates over the past several months in the preparation of structural, mechanical and electrical drawings, detailed specifications on materials, finishes, fittings etc., compliance issues, required certifications. As co-ordinator of the project, it has been my privilege to observe the forensic attention to detail of this teams, their painstaking examination of every line item in the interest of producing tender documents which ensure delivery of product at minimum cost. A number of delays were encountered along the way, necessitated by requirement to get agreement on details, but the team are now in a position to obtain a bill of quantities for the project, which should hopefully issue by the end of this month. The club owes a huge debt of gratitude to this team for the time, effort and expertise they have invested in getting the project to this stage.

The fundraising element of the project has also been proceeding steadily since January of this year through the dedication and hard work of the Finance Team of Niamh Fitzpatrick, Emer O’ Reilly, Kevin Moynihan, Fergal Brennan, Niall O’ Connor, Anthony O’ Halloran and Auriol Considine. The main thrust of the initial fundraising drive was a €1200 contribution from members towards the project, with a number of payment options on offer. While the target of 300 members has not been met to date, the team is very encouraged by the enthusiasm of the 200 + members who have committed, while contributions from other sources have compensated to a large extent and the finance team is working towards reaching the target amount over the coming months. The team will be examining other fundraising opportunities when they re-convene later this month and in the meantime wish to thank those members who have committed for their generosity of spirit and commitment to the future of Éire Óg.

The club Executive made a decision at the outset of this project that building work will not commence without funding being in place. From a standing start a little over a year ago, we’re now over half-way there, a huge achievement. Now we need all shoulders to the wheel to get us to the finish line. If you haven’t yet committed-we need you now!

Ar aghaidh le chéile!!

Academy notes

Hard luck to our U17 hurling and football teams who both tasted defeat in their respective championship games during the week. The hurlers have an opportunity to get their campaign back on track when they entertain Cratloe in the U17 "A" competition on Wednesday 9th in Eire Og. Throw in at 7pm.

On a brighter note our U17 Academy team kept their hopes of the reaching the Academy "A" Final alive by beating Clooney-Quin last Sunday. Next up is a visit from Sixmilebridge on Thursday evening 10th with a 7pm throw in.

Great to see our U13 going well at present. The footballers are already into the Div. 1 Football semi-final  with a round of the competition still to play. Our U13 Academy hurlers contest the Academy "A" semi-final on Tuesday next away to Kilmaley. Best of luck boys.

U5, U7, U9 & U11s are on a break from regular Academy activities for a few weeks. Plenty of activities in the coming week with Eire Og Summer Camp beginning on Tuesday. Hopefully the weather plays ball!!

Camogie notes
